About Us

Jewell Fortener's love of quilting started early on in life, with a particular love of Civil War reproduction fabric. For years, she pursued her passion for quilting n the evenings and on the weekends with an insatiable appetite that never seemed to be satisfied. Then, in 2007, Quilts R Jewels was established in an upper room of the Ohio County airport, where folks flying in and out of the airport, with wives in tow, started taking note of Jewel's quilting work.

Eventually, Jewel was subcontracted to fulfill a special quilting order from an internationally recognized theme park (every once in a while that blue and gold quilt still makes an appearance in castle pictures, and the initial sample still hangs in the Ohio County airport). Soon, the business began to outgrow its location, and in 2009, Jewell's husband, Ron, became a part-time long arm quilter when a second computerized quilting machine was purchased.

In 2012, the store expanded to Livermore Road, in Hartford, KY, adding a designated classroom space for quilting instruction. The new shop offered the needed room for a diverse selection of fabrics, including collections from Windham, Blank, Maywood, Blue Hill, Marcus Brothers, Northcott, Moda, plus Batiks, and the full line of Shadow Play fabric. The store also offers custom-made solid racks for quilt display.

Jewel offers quilting classes, while Ron instructs 221 Featherweight sewing machine classes, in addition to 221 Featherweight maintenance, restoration, and repair. Quilts R Jewels even boasts a few antique Singer sewing machines for sale, plus there are in-store sewing machinesfor beginner quilters to test out their new hobby.

Quilts R Jewels is all about promoting and encouraging the art of quilting through exceptional products. If you don't see what you're looking for, just let Jewell and Ron know and they'll go the extra mile to find it for you!
